Choose one 3-hour course from the list below.*
*A 4-hour math will fulfill this requirement, plus 1 hour toward your total required hours for the degree.
Choose one 4-hour course from the list below. The second digit in the course number must be a four.
Choose two 4-hour courses from the list below. The second digit in the course numbers must be a four. Additionally, please choose two 3-hour in the same language from the list below.
Applied (Primary, Secondary, and Commercial Studio) Lessons
Complete a total of 12-16 credits of applied lessons involving the primary instrument, a secondary instrument, and studio commercial music. Lessons must take place every semester, beginning at the 1000-level with two semesters of each level.
Applied primary instrument lessons listed below are based on the student's chosen career emphasis.
Complete at least six (6) credit hours of applied lessons in primary instrument.
Third digit of a course number determines instrument:
Voice --1-
Piano --2- (If piano is the primary instrument, secondary piano requirements must be fulfilled as part of the six (6) credit primary instrument credits of piano, so the secondary requirements are completed with a different instrument.)
Guitar --6-
Other instrumental lessons may be available depending on demand.
Complete at least ten (10) credit hours of applied lessons in primary instrument. The first two semesters, students take 1 credit hour courses per semester; the following four semesters, students take 2 credit hour courses per semester.
Third digit of a course number determines instrument:
Voice --1-
Piano --2- (If piano is the primary instrument, secondary piano requirements must be fulfilled as part of the six (6) credit primary instrument credits of piano, so the secondary requirements are completed with a different instrument.)
Guitar --6-
Other instrumental lessons may be available depending on demand.
Complete four (4) credit hours as a secondary instrument. If piano is not the primary instrument, then three (3) credits hours of Applied Piano are required as partial fulfillment of this secondary requirement.
*MUSI 1117 taken as needed per audition results as a requisite to MUSI 1118.
If piano is the primary instrument, complete four (4) credit hours of applied lessons for a different instrument.

Complete two (2) credit hours of applied lessons working in the Commercial Studio environment tailored to the student’s emphasis area. Music Industry students have the option of continuing with MUSI applied for their primary instrument or taking MUSCM Applied Commercial Music lessons for Commercial Performance.
(Enrollment every semester until graduation with a minimum of 4 credit hours followed by 4 or more zero-credit hours). The student’s primary instrument determines the student’s ensemble placement.
Keyboard Primary Instrument students may take the ensemble plan listed above or follow one of the plans listed below:
•Patriot Chorus or Liberty Chorus (see Voice Primary)
•Jazz Ensemble or Rock Ensemble (see Instrument Primary)

All MUSCM degrees are required to take the following course:
Business Courses are 3 Total Credit Hours unless Music Industry emphasis – see below
Select one of the following: Audio Production, Commercial Performance, Songwriting, and Music Industry.
Commercial Performance students take an additional four credits of Applied Instruction, which is listed in the Applied Primary Instrument Lessons section above. This is broken down into two semesters of 1-credit hour Applied courses, followed by four semesters of 2-credit hour lessons in primary instrument, totaling 4 additional primary instrument credits.
· Four semesters of 2-credit hour lessons in primary instrument (4 additional primary instrument credits)
· For pianists, Piano Proficiencies course – Level V and MUSI3024 – Level VI
A 120-credit-hour minimum for a bachelor’s degree is required, including 36 upper-level credit hours.
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA required in the major field (business, music, music business), with a letter grade of “C-“ or better in each course.
At least 12 credit hours in the major program must be completed at Dallas Baptist University, including nine upper-level course hours.
Minimum GPA Required for Graduation from Dallas Baptist University: DBU requires a minimum institutional cumulative, major, and minor GPA of 2.0.
A minimum grade of C- is required for all music courses within a music major or minor field of study.
