Description
This course focuses on the art and practice of worship songwriting, with an emphasis on group collaboration to create songs for the local church. Students will explore the process of writing original worship songs through the study of compositional techniques, song form, melodic development, and theologically grounded lyricwriting. Special attention will be given to crafting songs that are singable across a broad range of vocal abilities and suitable for multigenerational congregations. Students will engage in co-writing sessions with peers and professional writers, receive both peer and professional feedback, and participate in guided workshops to develop songs for congregational use. The course also covers strategies for selecting and integrating original songs into the planning and flow of corporate worship.
Completion requirement
This course requires a 4-day travel to Nashville for a songwriting boot camp.
